Tsomoiri Trek

Trekking Route: Leh – Rumtse – Kyamar – Kumur La – Tisaling – Shibuk La – Pangunagu – Nuruchan – Kyamayuri La – Gyamabarma – YalungNyau La – Tsomoriri – Leh

 

Day 01: Leh

After landing at Leh airport, meet our representative who will transfer you to your hotel in Leh. Take good rest as at such elevations, it is extremely important to be accustomed to the climate. Overnight stay at hotel.

 

Day 02: Leh

In the morning after breakfast, visit Thiksey Monastery which is the finest example of Ladakhi architecture. This Monastery is located on the top of a hill in solitude which lies at a distance of 20 km away from Leh. It is a twelve storey monastery complex with a number of wall paintings, stupas, statues and thangkas. There is also a large pillar engraved with Buddha’s teachings. Then visit Shey monastery and palace that is located 15 km from Leh. It was built in sixteenth century A.D. This monastery has a 10 meter high gilder copper statue of Lord Buddha. Visit Hemis Monastery which is notable for its rich collection of ancient remnants like the stupas made of gold and silver, the statue of Buddha made of copper. Monastery also has sacred Thangkas, murals and various artifacts. Situated in the foothills of Indus at a distance of 45 km from Leh, the monastery has access to motorable roads. The massive structure of Hemis Monastery is unique and depicts a specific style of architecture. Overnight stay at hotel.

 

Day 03: Leh – Rumtse (4000 meters) by drive. Trek to Kyamar – 4 Hours (4420 meters)

In the morning drive to Rumtse, situated in Rupshu Valley, from where the trek begin. It lies sandwiched among Ladakh, Tibet and Zanskar. Part of the Changthang plateau, the valley is characterized by snow-capped peaks, arid plains and pasturelands. Rumtse is known for its barren landscape and scenic beauty. Arrive at a magnificent and vast area, where the Changpas – nomadic herders take their yak to pasture. Then follow the ancient salt route along the green Kyamar valley to reach Kyamar. Overnight stay in camp.

 

Day 04: Kyamar – Kumur La (4770 meters) – Tisaling (4805 meters) in 5 Hours Trek

Start through beautiful gorge which is headed towards Chorten Sumda. There is a comfortable walk for one hour before ascend towards Kumur La. Here, from the top, you can see the beautiful view of the chain of Kangyatse and the chain of Indus valley. Overnight stay in camp.

 

Day 05: Tisaling – Shibuk La (4875 m) – Pangunagu (4800 meters) 5 Hours Trek

After breakfast, start the trek which offers a scenic sight of the Tsokhar Lake (4400 meters) and the Rupshu valley. Then move down towards the lake, from where the nomads collect salt. Finally reach Pangunagu and overnight stay in camp.

 

Day 06: Pangunagu – Nuruchan (4630 m) 5 Hours Trek

In the morning you have a comfortable trek by the lake side. On the way, you can see many birds and Wild ass (Kyang) of Ladakh and Tibet plateau. At the end of the lake the trail goes right and enters the Nuruchan village where you will stay overnight in camp.

 

Day 07: Nuruchan – – Kyamayuri La (5 410 m ) -Gyamabarma (4950 m) 6 Hours Trek

After having breakfast proceed on the trek to Gyamabarma that will take nearly 6 hours to reach. This is a great altitude track and you will have to cross two passes which are approximately at 4900 meters height. Overnight stay in camp.

 

Day 08: Gyamabarma – YalungNyau La (5 440 m) – Tsomoriri (4550 m) in 6 Hours

Start to trek on the northwestern coast of Tso Moriri, the “Mountain Lake”. There you can visit the Korzok monastery. At 15000 ft, Korzok Monastery has a unique location as it overlooks Tso Moriri, one of the highest lakes in India. The monastery was founded by Kunga Lodro Ningpo, the third Korzok Rinpoche around 300 years ago. Overnight stay in camp near the lake.

 

Day 09: Tsomoriri

In the morning pay a visit to Korzok village with its houses and its gompa looking like a mirage. The highest cultivation in the world must be a few barley fields at Korzok. In the afternoon visit the Lake. Tso Moriri lake is one of the most beautiful, calm and sacred (for ladakhis) high altitude lakes in India. This wonderful blue pallet lake is about 7 km wide at its broadest point and about 19 km long. The exquisite numerous shades of blue color displayed by this lake along with a picturesque landscape around gives this place an extremely romantic and breathtaking feel. Dinner and overnight stay in camp.

 

Day 10: Tsomoriri -Leh (by car 220 km, 7 hours)

In the morning you are free to enjoy the lake side. Later drive to Leh and overnight stay in hotel.

 

Day 11: Leh

After breakfast, you are transferred to airport for your onwards destination.
